Josh Avvenevole was a much loved 26-year-old with a deep enthusiasm for family, friends, study and sport. He was lost suddenly on Mother’s Day in 2019 after a Sudden Cardiac Arrest in his sleep.

Josh had a wide circle of friends and a quick, clever mind, known for his razor sharp wit and love of bush poetry. He was curious about the world and loved to travel, spending time across Europe, the US, Canada and Japan. Whether it was exploring museums, finding a great pub or skiing down a mountain, Josh embraced life fully.

He had completed a degree in Biomedical Science and was close to finishing a Masters of Analytical Finance, which was awarded posthumously. He hoped to build a career supporting the development of new medical advancements.

Josh was the adored second son of Jenny and Anthony, a much loved brother to Ben and Lucy, brother-in-law to Melissa, and uncle to Frankie and Freddie, who he would have showered with love.

His sudden passing is a reminder of how little is still understood about sudden cardiac death in young people, which often occurs without warning and in individuals with no known heart conditions.

In honour of Josh, his family and friends have turned their grief into action. They established an annual charity golf event, Heart of The Green, raising awareness and supporting research into sudden cardiac death. Through sharing Josh’s story, his legacy lives on in the hope of greater understanding, prevention, and protecting other families from the same loss.
